My Approach
A litany of approaches, one simple outcome.
Part of my approach to education is not picking an approach before I meet the stakeholders involved. That said, I do rely on a few driving principles.
Talk about our goals.
First, what do we want out of this process? Are we getting into a school, hitting a specific score threshold, or just trying to make a subject less intimidating?
Take stock of our strengths.
Student success comes from confidence. Finding a positive framework and making sure students know we're on the same team will help them take ownership of the process.
Build a schedule and a routine.
Habits need to be achievable and built into what students are already doing. The closer to a student's life we can bring a topic, the easier it will be to do the work.
Keep what works, stop what doesn't.
Education should be painless. If some part of the learning process is causing friction, we need a workaround.
